China Visa Guide from Middle East
If you are living in the UAE or another Middle Eastern country and plan to visit China for the Canton Fair, preparing the visa documents correctly is an important part of your travel planning.
The Canton Fair is one of China’s major international trade exhibitions, and overseas buyers can register through the official Canton Fair Buyer Service System and apply for an official invitation. The invitation can be used as supporting documentation for a Chinese visa application.
1. Do You Need a China Visa for the Canton Fair?
For travelers whose nationality requires a Chinese visa, you should obtain the appropriate Chinese visa before traveling to Guangzhou.
For a business visit to the Canton Fair, applicants should select the visa category and purpose that accurately reflect their planned activities. The Chinese Visa Application Service Center in Dubai lists M — Commercial Trade among the available purposes for ordinary-passport applicants.
Visa requirements can differ according to nationality, residence status and the Chinese mission responsible for your application. Therefore, applicants should always check the current requirements for the country where they are applying.
2. Step One: Register for the Canton Fair
The first step is to register as an overseas buyer through the official Canton Fair Buyer Service System.
For a first-time overseas buyer, the official process is generally:
Register → Apply for Overseas Buyer Badge → Provide personal and company information → Apply for Canton Fair Invitation
Existing overseas buyers can log in and apply directly for an invitation through the Buyer Service System.
The Canton Fair’s 2026 attendance guide is also available for overseas buyers in several languages, including English and Arabic.

3. How to Get the Canton Fair Invitation Letter
After registering, log in to the Buyer Service System.
For existing buyers:
Invitation Letter → My Invitation Letters → Apply for Invitation Letter
For new buyers, the invitation can be generated during the Buyer Badge application process by selecting the option to generate the invitation letter simultaneously.
After the application is completed, the invitation can be viewed, printed or downloaded from the system.
Make sure your:
- Full name
- Passport number
- Company name
- Company information
- Country/region
- Contact details
are entered correctly.
Any mismatch between your passport, visa application and supporting documents can create unnecessary questions during the visa process.
4. Documents Commonly Required for a China Business Visa
The exact document list depends on your nationality and the Chinese Visa Application Service Center or embassy/consulate where you apply.
For a Middle East-based applicant, prepare a complete file that may include:
Personal documents
- Original passport
- Passport copy
- Recent passport photograph
- Completed Chinese visa application form
- Residence visa copy
- Residence ID, such as Emirates ID where applicable
- Previous passports, if requested
- Previous Chinese visas, if applicable

- Company trade license or registration certificate
- Company profile, where appropriate
- NOC or employment letter, if applicable
- Travel itinerary
- Hotel reservation
- Flight reservation or travel plan
- Bank statement or financial documents, where required
The Chinese Visa Application Service Center may request additional documents depending on the individual application. The Dubai center specifically states that applicants may be asked for additional documents when necessary.
5. Applying from the UAE
For applicants applying in Dubai, the current Chinese Visa Application Service Center process requires an online application before physical submission.
The current procedure is:
Step 1 — Online Application
Create an account, complete the online Chinese visa application form and upload the passport, photograph and required supporting documents.
After submission, wait for the preliminary online review.
Step 2 — Visa Center Submission
After online approval, follow the instructions provided by the Visa Center and submit the required original documents and passport.
The Dubai center currently states that an appointment is not required for ordinary-passport applicants submitting through its appointment-free service. Applicants should still check the latest instructions before visiting.

The Dubai Visa Center describes its process in five broad stages: selecting the visa type and preparing documents, Visa Center assistance, online application, passport submission and application tracking.
7. Important Point About the Canton Fair Invitation
A Canton Fair invitation is supporting documentation for the visa application; it does not itself guarantee visa approval.
The Chinese visa application is assessed by the relevant Chinese authorities based on the applicant’s circumstances and submitted documents.
Therefore, having an invitation does not mean that the visa is automatically approved.
Your visa application should have a consistent story:
Passport → Residence Status → Company → Business Purpose → Canton Fair Registration → Invitation → Travel Plan
The information should be consistent throughout the application.
8. If You Are a Business Owner
Business owners in the Middle East may have a slightly different supporting-document profile from employees.
For example, a company owner may provide:
- Passport
- UAE residence visa
- Emirates ID
- Company trade license
- Company ownership/partner information
- Company bank statement, where appropriate
- Personal bank statement, where required
- Canton Fair invitation
- Company profile
- Travel plan
- Hotel booking
- Other documents requested by the Visa Center
If the application form asks about employment, position or supervisor information, the applicant should provide information that accurately reflects their actual company role rather than creating an artificial employer or supervisor.
9. How Much Time Should You Allow?
Do not leave the China visa application until the last few days before the Canton Fair.
The Dubai Visa Center currently recommends applying around three months before traveling to China to help ensure visa validity planning.
Processing time can vary depending on:
- Nationality
- Visa category
- Completeness of documents
- Online review
- Additional-document requests
- Chinese holidays
- Visa Center workload
- Individual circumstances
For this reason, it is better to prepare the Canton Fair registration and invitation well before your intended travel date.
10. Common Mistakes to Avoid
❌ Passport information does not match
Your name and passport number should be consistent across the application, invitation and supporting documents.
❌ Wrong purpose of visit
Do not select a business purpose simply because it appears convenient. Choose the purpose that accurately describes your trip.
❌ Incomplete company documents
Business travelers should keep their company documents organized and ready in case they are requested.
❌ Last-minute application
Canton Fair periods can involve significant international travel, so early preparation is advisable.
❌ Fake or altered documents
Never submit fabricated invitations, bank statements, employment letters or company documents.
❌ Ignoring current Visa Center instructions
Visa procedures can change. Always check the official Chinese Visa Application Service Center website for the location where you will submit your application.
